bdb4da9e19 f2fs: fix to set atomic write status more clear
[ Upstream commit db03c20c08 ]

1. After we start atomic write in a database file, before committing
all data, we'd better not set inode w/ vfs dirty status to avoid
redundant updates, instead, we only set inode w/ atomic dirty status.

2. After we commit all data, before committing metadata, we need to
clear atomic dirty status, and set vfs dirty status to allow vfs flush
dirty inode.

Let's dump and check metadata of corrupted inode, it shows its xattr_nid
is the same to its i_ino.

dump.f2fs -i 3 chaseyu.img.raw
i_xattr_nid [0x 3 : 3]

So that, during mknod in the corrupted directory, it tries to get and
lock inode page twice, result in deadlock.

- f2fs_mknod
 - f2fs_add_inline_entry
  - f2fs_get_inode_page --- lock dir's inode page
   - f2fs_init_acl
    - f2fs_acl_create(dir,..)
     - __f2fs_get_acl
      - f2fs_getxattr
       - lookup_all_xattrs
        - __get_node_page --- try to lock dir's inode page

In order to fix this, let's add sanity check on ino and xnid.

a5464ac3ee f2fs: fix to avoid atomicity corruption of atomic file
commit f098aeba04 upstream.

In the case of the following call stack for an atomic file,
FI_DIRTY_INODE is set, but FI_ATOMIC_DIRTIED is not subsequently set.

f2fs_file_write_iter
  f2fs_map_blocks
    f2fs_reserve_new_blocks
      inc_valid_block_count
        __mark_inode_dirty(dquot)
          f2fs_dirty_inode

If FI_ATOMIC_DIRTIED is not set, atomic file can encounter corruption
due to a mismatch between old file size and new data.

To resolve this issue, I changed to set FI_ATOMIC_DIRTIED when
FI_DIRTY_INODE is set. This ensures that FI_DIRTY_INODE, which was
previously cleared by the Writeback thread during the commit atomic, is
set and i_size is updated.

The root cause is: creating large files during disable checkpoint
period results in not enough free segments, so when writing back root
inode will failed in f2fs_enable_checkpoint. When umount the file
system after enabling checkpoint, the root inode is dirty in
f2fs_evict_inode function, which triggers BUG_ON. The steps to
reproduce are as follows:

dd if=/dev/zero of=f2fs.img bs=1M count=55
mount f2fs.img f2fs_dir -o checkpoint=disable:10%
dd if=/dev/zero of=big bs=1M count=50
sync
rm big
mount -o remount,checkpoint=enable f2fs_dir
umount f2fs_dir

Let's redirty inode when there is not free segments during checkpoint
is disable.

b82d43000b f2fs: use meta inode for GC of COW file
commit f18d007693 upstream.

In case of the COW file, new updates and GC writes are already
separated to page caches of the atomic file and COW file. As some cases
that use the meta inode for GC, there are some race issues between a
foreground thread and GC thread.

To handle them, we need to take care when to invalidate and wait
writeback of GC pages in COW files as the case of using the meta inode.
Also, a pointer from the COW inode to the original inode is required to
check the state of original pages.

For the former, we can solve the problem by using the meta inode for GC
of COW files. Then let's get a page from the original inode in
move_data_block when GCing the COW file to avoid race condition.

[ Upstream commit a539363613 ]

Commit 3c6c2bebef ("f2fs: avoid punch_hole overhead when releasing

This patch is to avoid some punch_hole overhead when releasing volatile
data. If volatile data was not written yet, we just can make the first
page as zero.

After commit 7bc155fec5 ("f2fs: kill volatile write support"), we
won't support volatile write, but it missed to remove obsolete

92901222f8 f2fs update for 6.6-rc1
In this cycle, we don't have a highlighted feature enhancement, but mostly
have fixed issues mainly in two parts: 1) zoned block device, 2) compression
support. For zoned block device, we've tried to improve the power-off recovery
flow as much as possible. For compression, we found some corner cases caused by
wrong compression policy and logics. Other than them, there were some reverts
 and stat corrections.

 Bug fix:
  - use finish zone command when closing a zone
  - check zone type before sending async reset zone command
  - fix to assign compress_level for lz4 correctly
  - fix error path of f2fs_submit_page_read()
  - don't {,de}compress non-full cluster
  - send small discard commands during checkpoint back
  - flush inode if atomic file is aborted
  - correct to account gc/cp stats

And, there are minor bug fixes, avoiding false lockdep warning, and clean-ups.

f240d3aaf5 f2fs: do more sanity check on inode
There are several issues in sanity_check_inode():
- The code looks not clean, it checks extra_attr related condition
dispersively.
- It missed to check i_extra_isize w/ lower boundary
- It missed to check feature dependency: prjquota, inode_chksum,
inode_crtime, compression features rely on extra_attr feature.
- It's not necessary to check i_extra_isize due to it will only
be assigned to non-zero value if f2fs_has_extra_attr() is true
in do_read_inode().

Fix them all in this patch.

71644dff48 f2fs: add block_age-based extent cache
This patch introduces a runtime hot/cold data separation method
for f2fs, in order to improve the accuracy for data temperature
classification, reduce the garbage collection overhead after
long-term data updates.

Enhanced hot/cold data separation can record data block update
frequency as "age" of the extent per inode, and take use of the age
info to indicate better temperature type for data block allocation:
 - It records total data blocks allocated since mount;
 - When file extent has been updated, it calculate the count of data
blocks allocated since last update as the age of the extent;
 - Before the data block allocated, it searches for the age info and
chooses the suitable segment for allocation.

Test and result:
 - Prepare: create about 30000 files
  * 3% for cold files (with cold file extension like .apk, from 3M to 10M)
  * 50% for warm files (with random file extension like .FcDxq, from 1K
to 4M)
  * 47% for hot files (with hot file extension like .db, from 1K to 256K)
 - create(5%)/random update(90%)/delete(5%) the files
  * total write amount is about 70G
  * fsync will be called for .db files, and buffered write will be used
for other files

The storage of test device is large enough(128G) so that it will not
switch to SSR mode during the test.

Benefit: dirty segment count increment reduce about 14%
 - before: Dirty +21110
 - after: Dirty +18286

677a82b44e f2fs: fix to do sanity check for inline inode
Yanming reported a kernel bug in Bugzilla kernel [1], which can be

[1] https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=215895

The bug is due to fuzzed inode has both inline_data and encrypted flags.
During f2fs_evict_inode(), as the inode was deleted by rename(), it
will cause inline data conversion due to conflicting flags. The page
cache will be polluted and the panic will be triggered in clear_inode().

Try fixing the bug by doing more sanity checks for inline data inode in
sanity_check_inode().

3db1de0e58 f2fs: change the current atomic write way
Current atomic write has three major issues like below.
 - keeps the updates in non-reclaimable memory space and they are even
hard to be migrated, which is not good for contiguous memory
   allocation.
 - disk spaces used for atomic files cannot be garbage collected, so
this makes it difficult for the filesystem to be defragmented.
 - If atomic write operations hit the threshold of either memory usage
or garbage collection failure count, All the atomic write operations
   will fail immediately.

To resolve the issues, I will keep a COW inode internally for all the
updates to be flushed from memory, when we need to flush them out in a
situation like high memory pressure. These COW inodes will be tagged
as orphan inodes to be reclaimed in case of sudden power-cut or system
failure during atomic writes.

The root cause is: inode node and dnode node share the same nid,
so during f2fs_evict_inode(), dnode node truncation will invalidate
its NAT entry, so when truncating inode node, it fails due to
invalid NAT entry, result in inode is still marked as dirty, fix
this issue by clearing dirty for inode and setting SBI_NEED_FSCK
flag in filesystem.

In this round, we've tried to address some performance issues in f2fs_checkpoint
and direct IO flows. Also, there was a work to enhance the page cache management
used for compression. Other than them, we've done typical work including sysfs,
code clean-ups, tracepoint, sanity check, in addition to bug fixes on corner
 cases.

 Enhancement:
  - use iomap for direct IO
  - try to avoid lock contention to improve f2fs_ckpt speed
  - avoid unnecessary memory allocation in compression flow
  - POSIX_FADV_DONTNEED drops the page cache containing compression pages
  - add some sysfs entries (gc_urgent_high_remaining, pending_discard)

 Bug fix:
  - try not to expose unwritten blocks to user by DIO
: this was added to avoid merge conflict; another patch is coming to address
      other missing case.
  - relax minor error condition for file pinning feature used in Android OTA
  - fix potential deadlock case in compression flow
  - should not truncate any block on pinned file

In addition, we've done some code clean-ups and tracepoint/sanity check
 improvement.

4034247a0d mm: introduce memalloc_retry_wait()
Various places in the kernel - largely in filesystems - respond to a
memory allocation failure by looping around and re-trying. Some of
these cannot conveniently use __GFP_NOFAIL, for reasons such as:

 - a GFP_ATOMIC allocation, which __GFP_NOFAIL doesn't work on
 - a need to check for the process being signalled between failures
 - the possibility that other recovery actions could be performed
 - the allocation is quite deep in support code, and passing down an
extra flag to say if __GFP_NOFAIL is wanted would be clumsy.

Many of these currently use congestion_wait() which (in almost all
cases) simply waits the given timeout - congestion isn't tracked for
most devices.

It isn't clear what the best delay is for loops, but it is clear that
the various filesystems shouldn't be responsible for choosing a timeout.

This patch introduces memalloc_retry_wait() with takes on that
responsibility. Code that wants to retry a memory allocation can call
this function passing the GFP flags that were used. It will wait
however is appropriate.

For now, it only considers __GFP_NORETRY and whatever
gfpflags_allow_blocking() tests. If blocking is allowed without
__GFP_NORETRY, then alloc_page either made some reclaim progress, or
waited for a while, before failing. So there is no need for much
further waiting. memalloc_retry_wait() will wait until the current
jiffie ends. If this condition is not met, then alloc_page() won't have
waited much if at all. In that case memalloc_retry_wait() waits about
200ms. This is the delay that most current loops uses.

linux/sched/mm.h needs to be included in some files now,
but linux/backing-dev.h does not.

a9419b63bf f2fs: do not bother checkpoint by f2fs_get_node_info
This patch tries to mitigate lock contention between f2fs_write_checkpoint and
f2fs_get_node_info along with nat_tree_lock.

The idea is, if checkpoint is currently running, other threads that try to grab
nat_tree_lock would be better to wait for checkpoint.
