d387d88ed0 hwmon: (pmbus) Add Delta AHE-50DC fan control module driver
This device is an integrated module of the Delta AHE-50DC Open19 power
shelf.  I haven't been able to procure any proper documentation for
it, but it seems to be a (somewhat minimally) PMBus-compliant device.
It provides four fan speeds, four temperatures (three standard and one
manufacturer-specific via a virtual second page), and a vin reading.

94ee5fcc24 hwmon: (pmbus/lm25066) Support configurable sense resistor values
The appropriate mantissa values for the lm25066 family's direct-format
current and power readings are a function of the sense resistor
employed between the SENSE and VIN pins of the chip.  Instead of
assuming that resistance is always the same 1mOhm as used in the
datasheet, allow it to be configured via a device-tree property
("shunt-resistor-micro-ohms").

b7792f3ea3 hwmon: (pmbus/lm25066) Add OF device ID table
The driver doesn't have a struct of_device_id table but supported devices
are registered via Device Trees. This is working on the assumption that a
I2C device registered via OF will always match a legacy I2C device ID and
that the MODALIAS reported will always be of the form i2c:<device>.

But this could change in the future so the correct approach is to have an
OF device ID table if the devices are registered via OF.

f067d5585c hwmon: (pmbus/ibm-cffps) max_power_out swap changes
The bytes for max_power_out from the ibm-cffps devices differ in byte
order for some power supplies.

The Witherspoon power supply returns the bytes in MSB/LSB order.

The Rainier power supply returns the bytes in LSB/MSB order.

The Witherspoon power supply uses version cffps1. The Rainier power
supply should use version cffps2. If version is cffps1, swap the bytes
before output to max_power_out.

Tested:
    Witherspoon before: 3148. Witherspoon after: 3148.
    Rainier before: 53255. Rainier after: 2000.

BPD-RS600 modules running firmware v5.70 misreport the MFR_PIN_MAX.
The indicate a maximum of 1640W instead of 700W. Detect the invalid
reading and return a sensible value instead.

7a8c68c57f hwmon: (pmbus/bpa-rs600) Don't use rated limits as warn limits
In the initial implementation a number of PMBUS_x_WARN_LIMITs were
mapped to MFR fields. This was incorrect as these MFR limits reflect the
rated limit as opposed to a limit which will generate warning. Instead
return -ENXIO like we were already doing for other WARN_LIMITs.

Subsequently these rated limits have been exposed generically as new
fields in the sysfs ABI so the values are still available.

76b72736f5 hwmon: (pmbus/ibm-cffps) Fix write bits for LED control
When doing a PMBus write for the LED control on the IBM Common Form
Factor Power Supplies (ibm-cffps), the DAh command requires that bit 7
be low and bit 6 be high in order to indicate that you are truly
attempting to do a write.

129cdce375 hwmon: (pmbus/bpa-rs600) Support BPD-RS600
The BPD-RS600 is the DC version of the BPA-RS600. The PMBUS interface is
the same between the two models. Keep the same compatible string but
accept either BPA-RS600 or BPD-RS600 in the PMBUS_MFR_MODEL.

e8e00c83a2 hwmon: (pmbus) Add support for reading direct mode coefficients
Add support for reading and decoding direct format coefficients to
the PMBus core driver. If the new flag PMBUS_USE_COEFFICIENTS_CMD
is set, the driver will use the COEFFICIENTS register together with
the information in the pmbus_sensor_attr structs to initialize
relevant coefficients for the direct mode format.

Some PMBus chips respond with invalid data when reading the WRITE_PROTECT
register. For such chips, this flag should be set so that the PMBus core

4e5418f787 hwmon: (pmbus_core) Check adapter PEC support
Currently, for Packet Error Checking (PEC) only the controller
is checked for support. This causes problems on the cisco-8000
platform where a SMBUS transaction errors are observed. This is
because PEC has to be enabled only if both controller and
adapter support it.

Added code to check PEC capability for adapter and enable it
only if both controller and adapter supports PEC.

e4db7719d0 hwmon: (pmbus) Add support for MPS Multi-phase mp2888 controller
Add support for mp2888 device from Monolithic Power Systems, Inc. (MPS)
vendor. This is a digital, multi-phase, pulse-width modulation
controller.

This device supports:
- One power rail.
- Programmable Multi-Phase up to 10 Phases.
- PWM-VID Interface
- One pages 0 for telemetry.
- Programmable pins for PMBus Address.
- Built-In EEPROM to Store Custom Configurations.
- Can configured VOUT readout in direct or VID format and allows
  setting of different formats on rails 1 and 2. For VID the following
  protocols are available: VR13 mode with 5-mV DAC; VR13 mode with
  10-mV DAC, IMVP9 mode with 5-mV DAC.

86c908d90f hwmon: (pmbus) Add new flag PMBUS_READ_STATUS_AFTER_FAILED_CHECK
Some PMBus chips end up in an undefined state when trying to read an
unsupported register. For such chips, it is necessary to reset the
chip pmbus controller to a known state after a failed register check.
This can be done by reading a known register. By setting this flag the
driver will try to read the STATUS register after each failed
register check. This read may fail, but it will put the chip into a
known state.

6e9ef8ca68 hwmon: (pmbus/bpa-rs600) Handle Vin readings >= 256V
The BPA-RS600 doesn't follow the PMBus spec for linear data.
Specifically it treats the mantissa as an unsigned 11-bit value instead
of a two's complement 11-bit value. At this point it's unclear whether
this only affects Vin or if Pin/Pout1 are affected as well. Erring on
the side of caution only Vin is dealt with here.

2a29db088c hwmon: (pmbus/isl68137) remove READ_TEMPERATURE_3 for RAA228228
The initial version of the RAA228228 datasheet claimed that the device
supported READ_TEMPERATURE_3 but not READ_TEMPERATURE_1. It has since been
discovered that the datasheet was incorrect. The RAA228228 does support
READ_TEMPERATURE_1 but does not support READ_TEMPERATURE_3.

c2a338c939 hwmon: (pmbus/fsp-3y) Fix FSP-3Y YH-5151E VOUT
After testing new YH-5151E devices, we found out that not all YH-5151E
work the same. The newly tested devices actually report vout correctly
in linear16 (even though they're still YH-5151E). We suspect that it is
because these new devices have a different firmware version, but that is
unconfirmed. The version cannot be queried through PMBus.

The compliant versions of YH-5151E report VOUT_MODE normally, so we turn
on the linear11 workaround only if VOUT_MODE doesn't report anything.

2d101db3e5 hwmon: (pmbus/fsp-3y) Fix FSP-3Y YH-5151E non-compliant vout encoding
I didn't properly test the driver for YH-5151E, so it was completely
broken. Firstly, the log/real mapping was incorrect in one case.
Secondly, PMBus specifies that output voltages should be in the linear16
encoding. However, the YH-5151E is non-compliant and uses linear11.
YM-2151E isn't affected by this. Fix this by converting the values
inside the read functions. linear16 gets the exponent from the VOUT_MODE
command. The device doesn't support it, so I have to manually supply the
value for it.

Both supported devices have now been tested to report correct vout
values.

1e4063329f hwmon: (pmbus) Add pmbus driver for MAX15301
Add pmbus driver support for Maxim MAX15301 InTune Automatically
Compensated Digital PoL Controller with Driver and PMBus Telemetry

Even though the specification does not specifically mention it,
extensive empirical testing has revealed that auto-detection of
limit-registers will fail in a random fashion unless the delay
parameter is set to above about 80us. The default delay is set
to 100us to include some safety margin.

This patch is tested on a Flex BMR461 converter module.

1734b4135a hwmon: Add driver for fsp-3y PSUs and PDUs
This patch adds support for these devices:
- YH-5151E - the PDU
- YM-2151E - the PSU

The device datasheet says that the devices support PMBus 1.2, but in my
testing, a lot of the commands aren't supported and if they are, they
sometimes behave strangely or inconsistently. For example, writes to the
PAGE command requires using PEC, otherwise the write won't work and the
page won't switch, even though, the standard says that PEC is optional.
On the other hand, writes to SMBALERT don't require PEC. Because of
this, the driver is mostly reverse engineered with the help of a tool
called pmbus_peek written by David Brownell (and later adopted by my
colleague Jan Kundrát).

The device also has some sort of a timing issue when switching pages,
which is explained further in the code.

Because of this, the driver support is limited. It exposes only the
values that have been tested to work correctly.

d3e33067a6 hwmon: (pmbus) Add pmbus_set_update() function to set update flag
For the STPDDC60 chip, the vout alarm-limits are represented as an offset
relative to the commanded output voltage. This means that the limits are
dynamic and must not be cached by the pmbus driver. This patch adds a
pmbus_set_sensor() function to pmbus_core to be able to set the update flag
on selected sensors after auto-detection of limit attributes.

There was an issue in how the tach feedbacks of dual rotor fans were
reported during any change in fan speeds with revision "A" of the
MAX31785. When the fan speeds would transition to a new target speed,
the rotor not wired to the TACH input when TACHSEL = 0 would report a
speed of 0 until the new target was reached. This has been fixed,
resulting in a revision "B" update where the MFR_REVISION of "B" is
0x3061.

Several power supplies supported by the IBM CFFPS driver don't
report valid data in the CAPABILITY register. This results in PEC
being enabled when it's not supported by the device, and since
the automatic version detection might fail, disable use of the
CAPABILITY register across the board for this driver.

not supposed to check the return value so the correct fix is just to
delete this check.

18e8db7f65 hwmon: (pmbus) Add mutex locking for sysfs reads
As part of commit a919ba0697 ("hwmon: (pmbus) Stop caching register
values"), the update of the sensor value is now triggered directly by the
sensor attribute value being read from sysfs. This created (or at least
made much more likely) a locking issue, since nothing protected the device
page selection from being unexpectedly modified by concurrent reads. If
sensor values on different pages on the same device were being concurrently
read by multiple threads, this could cause spurious read errors due to the
page register not reading back the same value last written, or sensor
values being read from the incorrect page.

Add locking of the update_lock mutex in pmbus_show_sensor and
pmbus_show_samples so that these cannot result in concurrent reads from the
underlying device.

The snprintf() function returns the number of characters which would
have been printed if there were enough space, but the scnprintf()
returns the number of characters which were actually printed.  If the
buffer is not large enough, then using snprintf() would result in a

9b20aec24b hwmon: (pmbus/max20730) adjust the vout reading given voltage divider
Problem:
We use voltage dividers so that the voltage presented at the voltage
sense pins is confusing. We might need to convert these readings to more
meaningful readings given the voltage divider.

Solution:
Read the voltage divider resistance from dts and convert the voltage
reading to a more meaningful reading.

Add support for mp295 device from Monolithic Power Systems, Inc. (MPS)
vendor. This is a dual-loop, digital, multi-phase controller.
This device:
- Supports two power rail.
- Provides 8 pulse-width modulations (PWMs), and can be configured up
  to 8-phase operation for rail 1 and up to 4-phase operation for rail
  2.
- Supports two pages 0 and 1 for telemetry and also pages 2 and 3 for
  configuration.
- Can configured VOUT readout in direct or VID format and allows
  setting of different formats on rails 1 and 2. For VID the following
  protocols are available: VR13 mode with 5-mV DAC; VR13 mode with
  10-mV DAC, IMVP9 mode with 5-mV DAC.

0-day rightfully complains about a sometimes uninitialized variable
in pmbus_get_boolean().

drivers/hwmon/pmbus/pmbus_core.c:903:13: warning:
		variable 'ret' is used uninitialized whenever 'if' condition is true
	} else if (!s1 || !s2) {

While that is technically true, it won't be hit in the field since the
condition indicates a programming error. Move the check of that condition
into the code generating the attribute entry, and refuse generating the
attribute if the condition is true. Swap the condition check in
pmbus_get_boolean() to ensure that static analyzers don't get a hiccup
(because we check if s1 and s2 are NULL, static analyzers may believe
that they can be NULL independently of each other).

a919ba0697 hwmon: (pmbus) Stop caching register values
Caching register values can be very expensive for PMBus chips. Some
modern chips may have 10 or more pages, with several sensors supported
per page. For example, MAX16601 creates more than 90 sysfs attributes.
Register caching for such chips is time consuming, especially if only a
few attributes are read on a regular basis. For MAX16601, it was observed
that it can take up to two seconds to read all attributes on a slow I2C
bus. In this situation, register caching results in the opposite of its
intention: It increases the number of I2C operations, in some cases
substantially, and it results in large latency when trying to access
individual sensor data.

Drop all register caching to solve the problem. Since it is no longer
necessary, drop status register mapping as part of the change, and specify
status registers directly.

Using this feature, the device is capable of recording
to nonvolatile flash memory the vital data about the
system status that caused the system to perform a
black box write.

A blackbox is 64 bytes of data containing all the
status registers, last two states of the sequencer,
timestamp and counters. The mapping of this data is
described in the adm1266 datasheet.

On power-up the driver sets the unix time to
the adm1266 using the SET_RTC command. This value
is incremented by an internal clock and it is used
as timestamp for the black box feature.

dd43193976 hwmon (pmbus) use simple i2c probe function
pmbus_do_probe doesn't use the id information provided in its second
argument, so this can be removed, which then allows using the
single-parameter i2c probe function ("probe_new") for probes.

This avoids scanning the identifier tables during probes.

Drivers which didn't use the id are converted as-is; drivers which did
are modified as follows:

* if the information in i2c_client is sufficient, that's used instead
  (client->name);
* configured v. probed comparisons are performed by comparing the
  configured name to the detected name, instead of the ids; this
  involves strcmp but is still cheaper than comparing all the device
  names when scanning the tables;
* anything else is handled by calling i2c_match_id() with the same
  level of error-handling (if any) as before.

Additionally, the mismatch message in the ltc2978 driver is adjusted
so that it no longer assumes that the driver_data is an index into
ltc2978_id.

8ba75b2028 hwmon: (pmbus/core) Use s64 instead of long for calculations
Using s64 type, instead of long type, for internal calculations and for
the sysfs interface.

This allows 64-bit values to appear correctly on 32-bit kernels.
As wattage is reported in microwatts, monitoring a power supply over
2KW requires this.

Although it may seem unlikely to run a 32-bit kernel on such a large
machine, enterprise servers often include a BMC, and the BMC might be
running a 32-bit kernel.

6d1d41c075 hwmon: (adm1275) Make sure we are reading enough data for different chips
Issue:
When PEC is enabled, binding adm1272 to the adm1275 would
fail due to PEC error. See below:
adm1275: probe of xxxx failed with error -74

Diagnosis:
Per the datasheet of adm1272, adm1278, adm1293 and amd1294,
PMON_CONFIG (0xd4) is 16bits wide. On the other hand,
PMON_CONFIG (0xd4) for adm1275 is 8bits wide. The driver should not
assume everything is 8bits wide and read only 8bits from it.

Solution:
If it is adm1272, adm1278, adm1293 and adm1294, use i2c_read_word.
Else, use i2c_read_byte

Testing:
Binding adm1272 to the driver.
The change is only tested on adm1272.

d86f3c9bba hwmon: (pmbus) Improve initialization of 'currpage' and 'currphase'
The 'currpage' and 'currphase' variables in struct pmbus_data are used by
the PMBus core to determine if the phase or page value has changed. Both
are initialized with values which are never expected to be set in the code
to ensure that the first page/phase write operation is actually performed.

This is not well explained and occasionally causes confusion. Change the
type of both variables to s16 and initialize with -1 to ensure that the
initial value never matches a requested value, and clarify that this
value means "unknown/unset".

All chips of this series with published datasheets support IIN, PIN, and
STATUS_INPUT PMBus commands. Per TI Power Management Forum, "TPS53679 and
TPS53681 have the same PMBus command set". There is no reason to believe
that this does not apply to TPS53688. Let's assume that this is correct
and add support for IIN, PIN, and STATUS_INPUT to TPS53679 and TPS53688
to simplify adding support for more chips of the same series.

At the same time, drop reporting VIN on channel 2. On chips with published
datasheets this voltage is identical to the voltage reported on channel 1,
and there is no reason to believe that this is different for TPS53679 and
TPS53888.

Chip specific support will be needed in the driver to be able to
support additional chips of the same series. Add support for it
to the driver.

To simplify adding support for more chips, call identification code

for more chips is added.

16358542f3 hwmon: (pmbus) Implement multi-phase support
Some PMBus chips support multiple phases, and report telemetry such
as input current, output current, or temperature for each phase.
Add support for such chips to the PMBus core.

Start with a maximum of 8 phases per page, and assume that supported
sensors per phase are similar for all pages. Only support per-phase
telemetry attributes, no limits or alarms.

As part of this patch, set the initial page variable to 0xff to ensure
that the page is updated when the first page command is issued. Also
only issue page commands if the chip supports more than one page.

cf2b012c90 hwmon: (pmbus/ltc2978) Fix PMBus polling of MFR_COMMON definitions.
Change 21537dc driver PMBus polling of MFR_COMMON from bits 5/4 to
bits 6/5. This fixs a LTC297X family bug where polling always returns
not busy even when the part is busy. This fixes a LTC388X and
LTM467X bug where polling used PEND and NOT_IN_TRANS, and BUSY was
not polled, which can lead to NACKing of commands. LTC388X and
LTM467X modules now poll BUSY and PEND, increasing reliability by
eliminating NACKing of commands.

If a chip is write protected, we can not change any limits, and we can
not clear status flags. This may be the reason why clearing status flags
is reported to not work for some chips. Detect the condition in the pmbus
core. If the chip is write protected, set limit attributes as read-only,
and set the flag indicating that the status flag should be ignored.

The LED blink_set function incorrectly did not tell the PSU LED to blink
if brightness was LED_OFF. Fix this, and also correct the LED_OFF
command data, which should give control of the LED back to the PSU
firmware. Also prevent I2C failures from getting the driver LED state
out of sync and add some dev_dbg statements.

7d45deb31b hwmon: (pmbus/adm1275) Fix power sampling support
Not every chip supported by this driver supports setting the number
of samples for power averaging. Also, the power monitoring register
is not always a 16-bit register, and the configuration bits used for
voltage sampling are different depending on the register width.
Some conditional code is needed to fix the problem.

On top of all that, the compiler complains about problems with
FIELD_GET and FIELD_PREP macros if the file is built with W=1.
Avoid using those macros to silence the warning.

4a60570dce hwmon: (pmbus/core) Treat parameters as paged if on multiple pages
Some chips have attributes which exist on more than one page but the
attribute is not presently marked as paged. This causes the attributes
to be generated with the same label, which makes it impossible for
userspace to tell them apart.

Marking all such attributes as paged would result in the page suffix
being added regardless of whether they were present on more than one
page or not, which might break existing setups. Therefore, we add a
second check which treats the attribute as paged, even if not marked as
such, if it is present on multiple pages.

update_lock is a mutex intended to protect write operations. It was not
taken, however, when _pmbus_write_word_data is called from

some PMBUS_VIRT_* operation is implemented as a read-modify-write cycle.

This patch makes sure the lock is held during the operation.

ff066653ae hwmon: (pmbus/tps53679) Fix driver info initialization in probe routine
Fix tps53679_probe() by using dynamically allocated "pmbus_driver_info"
structure instead of static. Usage of static structures causes
overwritten of the field "vrm_version", in case the system is equipped
with several tps53679 devices with the different "vrm_version".
In such case the last probed device overwrites this field for all
others.

6e5c06ad94 hwmon: (adm1275) Allow setting shunt reg value
The ADM series of hotswap controllers support extending
the current measurement range by using a sensing resistor
value other than the typical 1 mOhm. For example, using a 0.5 mOhm
sensing resistor doubles the maximal current can be measured.

Current driver assumes a shunt resistor value of 1 mOhm in calculation,
meaning for other resistor values, hwmon will report scaled
current/power measurements. This patch parses device tree parameter
"shunt-resistor-micro-ohms", if there is one.

e7c6a55606 hwmon: (pmbus) Fix page count auto-detection.
Devices with compatible="pmbus" field have zero initial page count,
and pmbus_clear_faults() being called before the page count auto-
detection does not actually clear faults because it depends on the
page count. Non-cleared faults in its turn may fail the subsequent
page count auto-detection.

This patch fixes this problem by calling pmbus_clear_fault_page()
for currently set page and calling pmbus_clear_faults() after the
page count was detected.

regardless of 'default n' being present or not:

    One side effect of (and the main motivation for) this change is making
    the following two definitions behave exactly the same:

        config FOO
                bool

        config FOO
                bool
                default n

    With this change, neither of these will generate a
    '# CONFIG_FOO is not set' line (assuming FOO isn't selected/implied).
    That might make it clearer to people that a bare 'default n' is
    redundant.

The devm_kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, devm_kcalloc().
This patch replaces cases of:

        devm_kzalloc(handle, a * b, gfp)

with:
        devm_kcalloc(handle, a * b, gfp)

as well as handling cases of:

        devm_kzalloc(handle, a * b * c, gfp)

with:

        devm_kzalloc(handle, array3_size(a, b, c), gfp)

as it's slightly less ugly than:

        devm_kcalloc(handle, array_size(a, b), c, gfp)

This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:

        devm_kzalloc(handle, 4 * 1024, gfp)

though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.

Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.

Some manual whitespace fixes were needed in this patch, as Coccinelle
really liked to write "=devm_kcalloc..." instead of "= devm_kcalloc...".

This power supply device regularly fails to read VOUT_MODE due to the
CML bit going high. This results in an incorrect exponent used for the
voltage data, and therefore the power supply reports incorrect voltage.
Work around this by setting the pmbus flag to skip the CML check.

Add debugfs entries for additional power supply data, including part
number, serial number, FRU number, firmware revision, ccin, and the
input history of the power supply. The input history is 10 minutes of
input power data in the form of twenty 30-second packets. Each packet
contains average and maximum power for that 30 second period.

The driver doesn't have a struct of_device_id table but supported devices
are registered via Device Trees. This is working on the assumption that a
I2C device registered via OF will always match a legacy I2C device ID and
that the MODALIAS reported will always be of the form i2c:<device>.

But this could change in the future so the correct approach is to have an
OF device ID table if the devices are registered via OF.

cf583b4275 hwmon: (pmbus/max31785) Add dual tachometer support
The dual tachometer feature is implemented in hardware with a TACHSEL
input to indicate the rotor under measurement, and exposed on the device
by extending the READ_FAN_SPEED_1 word with two extra bytes*. The need
to read the non-standard four-byte response leads to a cut-down
implementation of i2c_smbus_xfer_emulated() included in the driver.
Further, to expose the second rotor tachometer value to userspace the
values are exposed through virtual pages. We re-route accesses to
FAN_CONFIG_1_2 and READ_FAN_SPEED_1 on pages 23-28 (not defined by the
hardware) to the same registers on pages 0-5, and with the latter command
we extract the value from the second word of the four-byte response.

* The documentation recommends the slower rotor be associated with
TACHSEL=0, which corresponds to the first word of the response. The
TACHSEL=0 measurement is used by the controller's closed-loop fan
management to judge target fan rate.

Some circumstances call for virtual pages, to expose multiple values
packed into an extended PMBus register in a manner non-compliant with
the PMBus standard. An example of this is the Maxim MAX31785 controller,
which extends the READ_FAN_SPEED_1 PMBus register from two to four bytes
to support tach readings for both rotors of a dual rotor fan. This extended
register contains two word-sized values, one reporting the rate of the
fastest rotor, the other the rate of the slowest. The concept of virtual
pages aids this situation by mapping the page number onto the value to be
selected from the vectored result.

We should not try to set virtual pages on the device as such a page
explicitly doesn't exist; add a flag so we can avoid doing so.

Expose fanX_target, pwmX and pwmX_enable hwmon sysfs attributes.

Fans in a PMBus device are driven by the configuration of two registers,
FAN_CONFIG_x_y and FAN_COMMAND_x: FAN_CONFIG_x_y dictates how the fan
and the tacho operate (if installed), while FAN_COMMAND_x sets the
desired fan rate. The unit of FAN_COMMAND_x is dependent on the
operational fan mode, RPM or PWM percent duty, as determined by the
corresponding configuration in FAN_CONFIG_x_y.

The mapping of fanX_target, pwmX and pwmX_enable onto FAN_CONFIG_x_y and
FAN_COMMAND_x is implemented with the addition of virtual registers to
facilitate the necessary side-effects of each access:

1. PMBUS_VIRT_FAN_TARGET_x
2. PMBUS_VIRT_PWM_x
3. PMBUS_VIRT_PWM_ENABLE_x

Some complexity arises with the fanX_target and pwmX attributes both mapping
onto FAN_COMMAND_x: There is no general mapping between PWM percent duty and
RPM, so we can't display values in either attribute in terms of the other
(which in my mind is the intuitive, if impossible, behaviour). This problem
also affects the pwmX_enable attribute which allows userspace to switch between
full speed, manual PWM and a number of automatic control modes, possibly
including a switch to RPM behaviour (e.g. automatically adjusting PWM duty to
reach a RPM target, the behaviour of fanX_target).

The next most intuitive behaviour is for fanX_target and pwmX to simply be
independent, to retain their most recently set value even if that value is not
active on the hardware (due to switching to the alternative control mode). This
property of retaining the value independent of the hardware state has useful
results for both userspace and the kernel: Userspace always sees a sensible
value in the attribute (the last thing it was set to, as opposed to 0 or
receiving an error on read), and the kernel can use the attributes as a value
cache. This latter point eases the implementation of pwmX_enable, which can
look up the associated pmbus_sensor object, take its cached value and apply it
to hardware on changing control mode. This ensures we will not arbitrarily set
a PWM value as an RPM value or vice versa, and we can assume that the RPM or
PWM value set was sensible at least at some point in the past.

Finally, the DIRECT mode coefficients of some controllers is different between
RPM and PWM percent duty control modes, so PSC_PWM is introduced to capture the
necessary coefficients. As pmbus core had no PWM support previously PSC_FAN
continues to be used to capture the RPM DIRECT coefficients, but in order to
avoid falsely applying RPM scaling to PWM values I have introduced the
PMBUS_HAVE_PWM12 and PMB_BUS_HAVE_PWM34 feature bits. These feature bits allow
drivers to explicitly declare PWM support in order to have the attributes
exposed.

b24413180f License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.

By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.

Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier.  The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.

This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.

How this work was done:

Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
 - file had no licensing information it it.
 - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
 - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,

Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.

The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne.  Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.

The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed.  Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
 - Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
 - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
   lines of source
 - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
   lines).

All documentation files were explicitly excluded.

The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.

 - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
   considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
   COPYING file license applied.

   For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

 - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
   resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
   which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).

 - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
   confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

 - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
   the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
   in time.

In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights.  The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.

Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.

In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.

Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
 - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
   license ids and scores
 - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
   files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
 - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
   was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
   SPDX license was correct

This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction.  This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.

These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg.  Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected.  This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.)  Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

6dcf2fb5e8 hwmon: (pmbus/core) Prevent unintentional setting of page to 0xFF
The pmbus core may call read/write word data functions with a page value
of -1, intending to perform the operation without setting the page.
However, the read/write word data functions accept only unsigned 8-bit
page numbers, and therefore cannot check for negative page number to
avoid setting the page. This results in setting the page number to 0xFF.
This may result in errors or undefined behavior of some devices
(specifically the ir35221, which allows the page to be set to 0xFF,
but some subsequent operations to read registers may fail).

Switch the pmbus_set_page page parameter to an integer and perform the
check for negative page there. Make read/write functions consistent in
accepting an integer page number parameter.

ADM1278 is mostly compatible to other chips of the same series.
Besides the usual difference in coefficients, it supports
a temperature sensor, and it can measure both input and output

acb092cdf9 hwmon: (ltc2978) Add missing chip IDs for LTC2978 and LTC3882
Add additional chip ID for an older revision of LTC2978, as well
as two chip IDs for LTC3882. Turns out the LTC3882 does support the
LTC2978_MFR_SPECIAL_ID register, and reading it returns its chip ID,
but the register is undocumented.
