Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history,
even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git
archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about
3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early
git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good
infrastructure for it.

Let it rip!

Things to be done.

  1. Fix the bugs (see BUGS-parport).

  2. Proper documentation.

  3. A better lp.c:

    a) ECP support would be nice. This can only work if both the port and the printer support it.

    b) Handle status readback automatically. IEEE1284 printers can post status bits when they have something to say. We should read out and deal with (maybe just log) whatever the printer wants to tell the world.

  4. Support more hardware (eg m68k, Sun bpp).

  5. A better PLIP (make use of bidirectional/ECP/EPP ports).
